The room went dead silent.

Vikram Rathore stood near the wall his eyes fixed on Dev.

Dev's anger hadn't gone away.

It had only grown quieter. colder much more dangerous.

"You killed my man" Dev said slowly. "And now you're telling me stories to save yourself?"

Vikram swallowed hard. "No."

Dev took a step forward. "Then tell me the truth."

Vikram stared at him for a few long seconds. Then his face changed.

The fear vanished, replaced by a strange, quiet calm.

"Truth?" Vikram let out a faint smile. "You really want the truth, Dev?"

Dev's eyes narrowed. "Yes."

Vikram looked at the guards standing behind Dev. "Then you should know something."

He raised his hand.

A sharp metallic sound echoed from behind Dev.

Dev turned his head.

That one second was all Vikram needed.

Everything happened at once.

The lights went out.

Someone shouted.

Kabir grabbed Dev's arm in the dark. "DEV!"

A wild fight broke out in the dark.

Dev reached for Kabir but the whole room turned into complete chaos.

"Pihu go in your!" Vikram yelled into the darkness.

Pihu froze on the staircase unable to see anything.

She could only hear wild shouting and heavy footsteps.

Then the lights flashed back on.

Dev was gone.

"DEV!" Kabir roared looking around frantically.

Vikram was standing near the door he looked calm far too calm.

It hit Kabir instantly. "This was a setup."

Vikram looked at him. "Yes."

Kabir's face twisted in rage. "You betrayed him like you betrayed his father!"

Vikram didn't answer.

Kabir charged at him, but two armed guards blocked his path.

"Where is Dev?" Kabir snapped.

Vikram simply smiled. "Too late."

Kabir fought his way past the guards and ran down the back hallway. "Dev! Dev!"

He checked room after room but found nothing.

Then he saw an open back door leading out into the heavy rain.

Kabir ran outside, his heart beating fast.

He knew Dev was still alive, but he had no idea where vikram had taken him and that terrified him more than anything.

Vikram hadn't acted out of anger he had planned every single move every door every dark corner every second.

-----------

THE BASEMENT

Dev slowly opened his eyes.

Everything looked blurry his head throbbed with a dull pain.

He tried to move his arms but he couldn't.

His wrists were bound tight behind his back cold hard concrete pressed against his spine.

For the first time in his life Dev Rajvansh was completely trapped.

He looked around the dark basement.

"Vikram..." his voice sounded dry and weak.

Heavy footsteps echoed on the floor above him followed by silence.

Dev closed his eyes his mind flashing back to a memory of his father. "Never trust the man who smiles when everyone else is afraid."

He opened his eyes, his jaw tight. "Damn it..."

The heavy basement door creaked open.

Vikram walked down the wooden stairs taking his time.

Dev glared at him. "You."

"You thought you had me cornered" Vikram said softly stopping a few feet away.

"You used my anger," Dev said, his tone icy.

"Yes."

"Then maybe you used your daughter too." Dev said

Vikram's face changed for the first time, his calm look slipping away. "Leave my daughter out of this."

Dev let out a bitter, cold laugh. "She's already in it."

Vikram stayed silent.

"You brought me here because you knew I'd come for revenge," Dev continued staring right into his eyes.

"That was the point" Vikram said plainly. "You were always easy to predict when you were angry."

Dev's eyes turned lethal. "And you were always just pretending to be my father's friend."

Vikram's face went hard. "Your father and I were real friends then why do this?"

Vikram looked at him with a dark, hidden expression. "Because some friendships don't survive the truth."

He turned back toward the stairs.

"Vikram!" Dev called out.

Vikram stopped looking back over his shoulder.

"When I get out of here" Dev said, his voice deadly quiet, "you will regret this."

Vikram offered a small smile. "We'll see."

The door slammed shut, and the lock clicked into place.

Dev was left alone in the dark bleeding

.....PIHU'S ROOM

Pihu sat on the edge of her bed her hands shaking uncontrollably.

She couldn't process what had just happened downstairs.

Her father had always been protective of her strict quiet and secretive yes but never like this.

A quiet knock sounded on her door. "Dad?"

The door opened and vikram stepped inside.

Pihu stood up right away.

"Where is Dev that men dad ?" She asked with soft voice

Vikram didn't answer.

"Dad, where is he?"

"Pihu" his voice was cold and firm. "Stay away from this."

She stared at him her chest aching. "What did you do to him?"

"Nothing you need to care about."

"He came here because he want to kill me he is dangerous he can do anything to anyone he is a monster!"

Pihu cried out.

Vikram's eyes turned hard. "And that is exactly why you need to stay out of it!"

Pihu shook her head, tears forming in her eyes. "You told me you didn't want any trouble."

"I didn't."he said sharply

"Then why did you do it?"

Vikram looked at her for a split second, he looked like her soft father again the man who used to hold her hand and keep her safe from every threat.

Then that look vanished. "You don't understand the world you're living in."

"Then tell me!" Pihu whispered, tears running down her cheeks. "Explain it to me!"

Vikram walked over to the window, staring into the storm. "I kept you safe from this dark world for years."

"By lying to me?"

"By keeping you alive."

Pihu wiped her face with the back of her hand. "Where is he then?"

Vikram turned around. "In the basement."

Pihu froze. "What?"

"He's tied up down there."

Her heart sank. "You... tied him up?"

"Yes because he came into my home looking for my blood but he can never ."

Vikram let out a quiet laugh. "I caught Dev Rajvansh."

Pihu didn't laugh she couldn't she looked at her father as if he were a complete stranger.

"Dad..." her voice broke. "Why are you smiling?"

Vikram's smile faded. "Because the man everyone calls a devil walked in here thinking he was in total control."

Pihu slowly took a step back looking toward the dark floor somewhere deep under her feet dev was locked away alone bound and her father had set it all up.

"I don't know who you are anymore," Pihu whispered.

Vikram's face tightened. "Don't say that."

"You said you were protecting me."

"I am!"he snap

"Then why does protecting me feel like a nightmare?"she shout

Vikram had no words.

Pihu wiped another tear from her eye. "You told me he was dangerous."

"He is."he said sharply

"But tonight..." Pihu looked right into her father's eyes, her voice trembling. "I saw the devil and it wasn't him."

Silence filled the room vikram's calm completely broke. "Pihu..."

She shook her head. "Just leave."

Vikram stood there for a moment, looking at his daughter then he turned toward the door.

"Whatever happens next," he said quietly "stay away from the basement."

"Why?"

"Because some secrets should stay buried."

The door shut behind him.

Pihu was left standing alone in the quiet room.

Her father had warned her to stay away, but she couldn't stop thinking about the man locked in the dark beneath her feet.

Dev Rajvansh.

The man everyone feared.

For the first time pihu wondered if Dev was really the monster her father claimed he was. or if her father was the one wearing the mask all along.
